snow ghost

to be completely honest i chose the title of this entry to be "snow ghost" only because it was the first thing i heard this morning. speaking of sounds and firsts, it sounded like a good idea to attempt something different than oil so this is my first go at it. i chose multimedia. the first image i call "u r hear". the second i titled "muse see 'em".
photograph and acrylic and silk screen.

monkey business

i have never met a monkey i did not love. i decided to honor that love by trying something new. new style which i guess is best described as modern folk propaganda pop art.
oil on canvas. a little acrylic as well.

oldie but goodie

because of the very wonderful response to my rembranksy painting I have decided to do another one. i am experimenting with aging and distressing the canvas so it looks old and beaten up. although this is a velasquez and not a rembrandt i still will put it under my rembranksy group.
i decided to post a close up instead of the whole painting.
oil on canvas.

our national hero

this is a painting i am very proud of. the idea is to make the experience of looking at it the same as the way most people today look at the idea of a hero. when most people think of a hero today they think of actors and sports stars. they think that these people are the same as historical national heroes who died for justice and liberty and to stop oppression. when most people look at this painting they think it is the philippine national hero jose rizal when it is actually manny pacquiao. in other words, just like the confusion of the idea of a hero this painting confuses the iconic image of a hero.
oil on canvas with antiquing finish.

a pair of shoos

this word is new to me. shoo. i am told it is the same as "go away" or "get lost". when it was explained to me it inspired me to paint these two paintings. it is the one pair i would buy for imelda.

cheese plate

there is a small restaurant i go to often to get some food. i love the way they make their fish stew. the owner told me one day i should try something new. he said i should expand my horizons. he told me to try his cheese plate.
i ordered the fish stew.
but i went home and tried a new style of painting.
this one i have titled Jack's Twins Number 7.

first commission

this painting was the first commission i ever did. it is also the largest painting i have done until now. i decided to paint two cans of my favorite foods from america. i called it "warhor" because painting cans of food made me feel a little like andy warhol and because taking someone's money to make art made me feel a little like a whore.
oil on canvas.

first exhibit

at first i did not want to exhibit because i felt my work was like my child or like a mirror reflecting my thoughts and feelings. it did not feel right to put it out to the public. this man called jaiminho da mata kept pushing and pushing so i finally agreed. he exhibited for friends of his in brazil. i am very proud that all my work was bought. this is one of the paintings. i call it "mph". it is part of my post-modern posts series. it is oil on canvas.

hello world

this is my first time to blog and because it is my first time to blog i am sharing with you the first oil painting i ever sold. it is called "rembranksy" and i did it as a tribute to a painter i like very much called banksy. seeing his work made me know it is okay to joke in a work of art. before this one i did a painting called "our national hero" and seeing paintings by banksy afterwards made me sure it had been alright to do such a painting as "our national hero" so this one is in honor of him.
it is oil on canvas.
