this is a painting i am very proud of. the idea is to make the experience of looking at it the same as the way most people today look at the idea of a hero. when most people think of a hero today they think of actors and sports stars. they think that these people are the same as historical national heroes who died for justice and liberty and to stop oppression. when most people look at this painting they think it is the philippine national hero jose rizal when it is actually manny pacquiao. in other words, just like the confusion of the idea of a hero this painting confuses the iconic image of a hero.
oil on canvas with antiquing finish.
THE BEST SO FAR. INCREDIBLE. JF, YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOnce again you impress me with an image which not only is a master work on its own but actually goes beyond that, giving the viewer something to think about from their experience of looking at the image. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteputs a whole new meaning to NOLO CONTENDERE.
ReplyDeleteJuan Felix you rock. This is your best painting by FAR. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the aging look. It looks like Hidalgo or Juan Luna or someone like that painted it ages ago.
ReplyDeleteA. MAY. ZING.
@Kevin L. if you are referring to Rizal's book it's NOLI ME TANGERE which means "don't touch me" which is very different from NOLO CONTENDERE which means "I don't wish to be contend". The joke still works but I thought you ought to know this.
ReplyDeleteAll you gotta do now is paint Jose Rizal in a boxing match. lol
ReplyDeleteIf I were you I'd make this into a tshirt and a poster as well as a key chain and mug and everything else you can imagine.
ReplyDeleteIs there a way I can contact you directly.
ReplyDeleteDoctah Fuzz, shouldn't he make more than just one tshirt and poster and key chain and mug.
